Write for the Overshot issue of WEFT!

Summer for WEFT means structure, and for summer 2027 we are thrilled to focus on overshot! With as few as four shafts, overshot impresses weavers of all skill levels and is often a weaver’s first “one warp and two wefts” cloth. We’d love to have your help digging into this exciting topic.
Basics first! What is overshot and where did it come from? Do you know its history and what made it so popular? How do we weave overshot, and what treadling variations are possible?
We want to see experimental articles that ask questions like, Does it matter what tabby shed we start on? What happens when we thread directly from a profile? Is there a relationship between block size and yarn size? What happens when we don’t follow the rules for treadling turning blocks and running blocks?
Can you share your insights on designing with overshot? Have you ever tried combining supplemental warp and weft patterning to create mitered corners? What do we need to know about halftones in overshot on 8-shafts? Have you ever explored Donna Lee Sullivan’s “Liberty of Tie-ups"?
We’re also looking for amazing projects that show off the fabulous range of overshot.
Proposals for articles and projects are due by January 1, 2026.
We’ll let you know in February 2026.
Final articles, samples, and projects are due by September 15, 2026.
